Ira Rothstein (Carnegie Mellon U.) In this talk I will discuss an approach to understanding Fermions near unitarity utilizing an effective field theory formalism. Ill start by proving that a system of Fermions at unitarity can not have quasi-particles with lifetimes that scale as the energy squared as in the case of a canonical Fermi liquid. I will then consider systems that are perturbed away from unitarity and then use anomaly matching to make a first principle prediction for the compressibility in terms of the scattering length, Fermi energy and contact parameter.
