2003 Major: Physics

How has being a Physics graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"Duke's physics programme inspired a love of the subject that led me first to a PhD in experimental atomic physics and then to a career as a science journalist where I write and edit stories about physics every day."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Physics programs?

"The department is small (in the sense that there generally aren't hordes of other physics majors), so use this to your advantage. Get to know your professors and their research and use this knowledge not only to get recommendation letters for jobs or grad school, but also to help you decide whether you want to continue in physics after you graduate, and if so in what field or what type of work."
