The Physics Instructional Machine Shop is equipped with drill presses, milling machines, lathes, bandsaws, grinders, sanders, a bead blaster and a wide assortment of hand tools.
The Shop offers a Safety and Machine Operation (SAMO) course. The SAMO course is structured for an individual to acquire the skills needed to use any and all of this equipment to fabricate their own custom tools and instruments, as well as modify and repair existing equipment. After paying for the class and completing the course, students are permitted to enroll in an annual shop subscription that includes access during regular business hours.
