PhD Student, University of Washington – Seattle, WA

2019 Major: Physics and Mathematics; minor in Computer Science

How has being a Physics graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"My physics degree has given me the tools and skills I need to pursue my PhD in quantum computing and quantum field theory. It has taught me invaluable problem-solving skills and ways to rationalize and present my ideas in a clear and precise manner. Perhaps most importantly, it broadly opened the door for me to the world of physics and research."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Physics programs?

"I would highly advise students to begin taking physics/math courses early so that they are able to get to higher level content and topics courses sooner. Being close to the forefront of research is one of the most exciting ways to learn these subjects."
