Introduction to Condensed Matter Physics

PHYSICS 385

Explore the physics of solids—how atomic arrangements and electron behavior determine the properties of materials. Topics include crystal structures, diffraction, lattice vibrations, electronic band structure, semiconductors, magnetism, and superconductivity. Understand how microscopic interactions in solids lead to the diverse phenomena underlying today's technologies. Recommended prerequisite: Physics 264L or 142L; Mathematics through multivariable calculus and linear algebra.
